In the 11th episode of the neonVest podcast, we are interviewing Luca Parolari, Senior Associate at DCVC Bio about investing on the frontiers of Deep Tech.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Luca is a Doctor of Medicine and graduated summa cum laude from the university of Bologna (Italy). He also holds a PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, and Genetics from the Rockefeller University in NY.
Luca has experience as an early-stage startup investor (Data Collective, Arkitekt Ventures, NY Angels) and operator (founder @Pintô International, consultant for 15+ startups in NY area).
He currently works with DCVC Bio in California as a Senior Associate. Some of his investments include: SoluTx (Seed), Latus Bio (Series A), Auron (Series A), Umoja (Series B), Avicenna (Seed), Totus Medicine (Series B), Plexium (Series B), Novome (Series B), Cellanome (Series A, A2), Syntax (Seed), Stemson (Series A), and CH4 Global (Series A).
Luca also worked on due diligence, portfolio management, sourcing, and landscape research for financial and deep technical diligence on two dozen companies. He performed operational support to 3 in-house incubations, attended BoD as an unofficial Board Observer for 5 porftolio companies, and provided portfolio companies with operational and strategic assistance, as well as fundraising support.
Luca sources an average of 1,000 companies a year from his personal network, conferences, and accelerators. He did a deep dive research on companies related to Allogeneic Cell Therapy, Bispecific Antibodies, Autoimmune Diseases, Neurodegenerative, Psychedelic Medicines, Drug Delivery of Genetic Medicines, AI/ML in Drug Discovery, RNA Medicines.
DCVC Bio is an SF-based early-stage venture capital firm investing in companies at the intersection of computation and life science. Their focus is on therapeutics, synthetic biology, industrial biotech, and agricultural tech, with a particular interest in companies developing revolutionary machine learning-powered platforms. DCVC Bio is currently investing out of a $550M fund.
